SketchUp extension · free

Get your SketchUp model ready for quantities and cost

Pick a type and a material for each group — the extension writes the IFC class and a name Constructio understands. It lists what cannot be measured yet, shows the quantities as you model, and exports the IFC file you upload to your project.

Why an extension

A model that looks right is not always measurable

Groups without a type

An unclassified group is invisible to a quantity take-off: the stair treads you drew are simply not counted.

Open solids

If a group is not a closed solid, its volume cannot be measured — concrete and blocks come out wrong.

Names nobody can read

“Group 2231” says nothing; “AAC block 20 exterior wall” tells the site the material, the thickness and that it is external.

What it does

Everything the take-off needs, inside SketchUp

Types, materials and names

Wall, slab, column, beam, lintel, stair, window, door, room, roof, storey, building and more. Choose the material, exterior or interior, the concrete class or the room finish; the name is written with the measured thickness, in the panel's language.

Outliner-style check list

The whole model as a tree: open a storey and see its walls. Each line shows whether the part is classified, a part of a window, a container group, unclassified or open; closed groups show how many problems they hold.

Show = isolate

“Show” enters the group and hides the rest of the model, so you see exactly the part you are fixing. Press Esc and everything comes back as it was.

Quick take-off while you model

Length, height, one face area, volume and block count for the selected part; walls, concrete, windows, doors and rooms for the whole model. It refreshes by itself when the model changes.

SketchUp's own materials

The chosen material is assigned to the group from SketchUp's material library — aerated concrete, brick, concrete, glass, parquet. If the library does not have it, a coloured material is created.

Colour tags by type

Every type gets its own coloured tag in a “Constructio” folder. Turn on “Color by tag” and walls, slabs, windows and doors stand out at a glance.

IFC export to your project

One button exports the IFC file. Upload it on your project's “Quantities from IFC” page and get the quantities, the cost and the 3D model with floor plans.

Local and undoable

The extension runs on your computer; it needs no account and sends nothing anywhere. Every “Apply” is a single step you can undo.

Three languages

English, Turkish and Estonian — chosen automatically from SketchUp or your system, or picked in the panel. Names are written in the chosen language and the site reads all three.

How it works

From SketchUp to the cost in four steps

01

Install

Download the .rbz file and install it from Extensions → Extension Manager. The orange “C” appears on the toolbar.

02

Define

Select a group, choose its type and material, press Apply. Several groups at once are named one by one with their own thickness.

03

Check

Open the check list, filter to problems, press “Show” and fix each one. The take-off updates as you go.

04

Send

Export IFC and upload it in your project under Cost → Quantities from IFC. Enter prices and carry the quantities to the work plan.

Installation

Installed in a minute

  1. Download constructio-sketchup-0.4.0.rbz.
  2. In SketchUp: Extensions → Extension Manager → Install Extension, choose the file and confirm.
  3. Open Extensions → Constructio → Constructio panel, or click the orange “C” on the toolbar.
  4. Installing a newer version replaces the old one; your names, types and tags stay in the model.
Download v0.4.0 (.rbz)

A listing on the SketchUp Extension Warehouse is being prepared; until then the extension is downloaded from here.

Requirements

  • SketchUp 2021 or newer for desktop (tested on SketchUp 2026 Pro for Windows; macOS not tested yet)
  • IFC export needs SketchUp Pro; types, checks and the take-off work in every desktop edition
  • SketchUp for Web (Free, Go) does not run extensions

New in 0.4.0

  • Outliner-style check list with a “problems only” filter
  • “Show” isolates the part; Esc brings the rest back
  • The take-off refreshes by itself; “Update” button
  • SketchUp library materials and colour tags by type
  • New types: building; frame and glass as window parts
Frequently asked

Questions

Yes. It needs no account and no licence. You need a free Constructio account only to upload the IFC file and get the cost.
Only the groups you select and apply to: their name, IFC type, a few Constructio attributes and — if you leave the boxes ticked — the material and the tag of the group (faces are not painted). Every Apply is one Undo step.
No. It reads the open model on your computer to show the checks and the take-off. Only the IFC file you upload yourself reaches Constructio, and even that is read in your browser.
They are parts of a window or door: the window is counted once, from its outer group, with its size. Frame and glass only get a name so the model stays tidy.
No — export IFC from your program and upload it directly. The extension exists because SketchUp models usually carry no types or materials.
Extensions → Extension Manager → Constructio → Uninstall. Names, types and tags already written stay in your model.
